This post is about simple spiritual goals that you can use in your everyday life.

Many people start to pursue their spiritual goals but get lost in the weeds. Sometimes they get overwhelmed or choose goals that are a bit too challenging.

For example, reading the entire bible in 30 days is an admirable goal but it may be overwhelming to finish in a tight timeframe.

Whenever you set your goals, just make sure to avoid turning your spiritual goal into a task.

Along my journey, I tend to start with simple spiritual goals that feed my spirit and expand from there.

I also think your chosen goals should be:

  • something that strengthens your faith,
  • draws you closer to God, and
  • joyfully encourages your spiritual growth as a person.

Simple Spiritual Goals:

Here are spiritual goal ideas that you can explore, and I’ve included a few examples of paths towards that goal.

Depending on your overall plan, you can focus on one or more of these goals daily, weekly or monthly.

1. Be a good steward.

A steward is someone who manages or oversees the property of another. Since God has given us the gift of life, the very world that we inhabit, and even our material possessions, then we should take care of these resources as good stewards.

Everything we have is a gift from God! It’s not about adhering to a rule of law but applying wisdom. How can we not be wasteful for what has been given to us?

  • Use time wisely. You can spend time with family instead of watching tv or scrolling through social media. You can also use your free time to serve others or a local charity.
  • Use your talents. Many times we set our talents on the side because we’re afraid of opinions. Your singing may bring joy to someone, your art may inspire another, your writing may reach someone who is distant, etc. If you have a skill or talent, develop it, use it and let it shine. There is a purpose for every good thing.
  • Be wise with your money. I believe we can enjoy the money we have earned and not be reckless with it. By being mindful, you can be a good steward with money in a variety of simple ways. For example, you can set and stick to a budget, sign up for account alerts to be aware of your spending habits, cancel tv streaming services that you’re not using, enjoy dinner at home, apply eligible coupons for purchases, or start an emergency fund.

2. Stay away from gossip and its drama.

Gossip loves to find people to suck into its pit. Once you’re in it, there’s no way to maneuver out of it and all the mess it brings.

It’s best to speak only kind words about others. If gossip tries to raise its head in my presence, I remain quiet and find a way to excuse myself from the conversation.

Here are some other ways you can try to stay away from gossip:

  • Associate with like-minded people who are not interested in gossip or tearing down others.
  • Avoid people who enjoy minding other people’s business or only have negative words to say about others.

A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don’t hang around with chatterers.” – Proverbs 20:19 – NLT

3. Practice gratitude as a spiritual goal.

Take every opportunity to practice gratitude and be thankful for your blessings. Being alive is a blessing by itself and one to be grateful for each morning that we rise.

I know everything is not perfect, but there’s still something good going on each day. You just have to be still enough to find it.

Here are some ways to start practicing gratitude:

  • Write 3 things you’re grateful for every morning.
  • Tell loved ones that you appreciate them.
  • Be thankful for the meal you enjoyed for dinner.

4. Be generous and kind.

By being generous and kind, you help send out such good energy for everyone including yourself. It’s a blessing to be able to look outside of yourself and give in some capacity.

Generosity doesn’t always have to come from your wallet but it definitely starts within your heart. You can choose a day for random acts kindness to uplift others or do things like:

  • Volunteer your time or donate to a local charity.
  • Support a cause that speaks to your heart.
  • Help someone that has fallen on hard times or is in a difficult season of life.
  • Pray for others.

5. Expect good things for your life.

Life can get a little rough and we sometimes start to expect the worst. But, good things should still be expected for your life. Just because it rains today doesn’t mean that sunshine will stay away forever.

This too shall pass!

Don’t allow fear or turmoil to change your perspective to the negative. Start each day expecting good things for you and your family. Keep pushing forward by doing simple things like:

  • Allow faith to overtake fear.
  • Know that God is always working things out for your good.
  • Read Jeremiah 29:11 as a reminder that God has a plan to prosper you, to give you hope and future.

6. Hear or Read God’s Word to grow your faith.

Staying in God’s Word is a spiritual goal that can help strengthen faith. You’ll also find that you develop a closer relationship with God.

You can easily make it a priority to renew your mind daily. So, schedule it in your planner and make it real!

Plus, there are so many platforms to access the Word throughout your day. You can simply:

  • Read a chapter of your Bible or Bible app during your free time.
  • Listen to your favorite Christian podcast.
  • Attend church or bible study weekly.
  • Watch a biblical sermon on Youtube.

Wherever you are on your journey, I hope this list of ideas for spiritual goals are helpful!
